ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS)

ISO 9001 is an internationally recognized standard established by ISO (The International Organization for Standardization) and adopted by over three million organizations worldwide. The standard describes the key features in any organization necessary to consistently deliver a quality management service and product to its clients in a changing world.

There are approximately 20 features of a properly implemented ISO 9001 management system which all well-run organizations should adopt, including:

  1. Gain a clear understanding of its philanthropic developing needs.
  2. Documented evidence that all staff are competent and trained to deliver a quality service in areas where they  work.
  3. A management system that helps the organization learn from its mistakes and that supports continual improvement.

Without these and the other basic features, the organization will be less capable of producing the consistent and reliable service that its clients require.

While it is not mandatory, nearly all organizations with ISO 9001 have “certified systems”. This means that the effectiveness of these basic features is inspected by an independent assessor annually. The independence of this assessor is validated by their accreditation as an ISO Certification Body.

HOW WILL ISO 9001 HELP MY ORGANIZATION?

ISO 9001 can fundamentally change your organization. By focusing on needs, ISO 9001 can elevate your quality standards:

  • Internal processes are streamlined, improving efficiency, cost containment and savings, while improving accountability and traceability.
  • A recognized mark of quality opens your organization up to a larger fiscal impact, both now and in the future.
  • Staff motivation is improved through greater clarity and focus on organizational objectives – time and resources are spent on what really matters to your organization.
  • Better internal processes ultimately improve achievement of organizational goals.

Perhaps the most important element of the standard, however, is that it is not a one-off exercise. Regular reviews keep quality at the forefront of the organization, with continual process improvement driving organizational development.
